Anybody in the club interested in riding as a club in the State Fair Parade? I walked in it last year with my dog, giving out candy for a politician. It was pretty fun.
Registration is only $20. The deadline is August 12th and the parade itself is on the morning of Saturday, September 12th. They do try to limit the parade to 200 groups, so it might be worthwhile signing up earlier than later if we want to ride in it. Parade participants also get one day entry into the fair.
I'll volunteer to handle the paperwork and signup if we want to do it.

This is not a bad idea at all. I know it's just the fair, and it has been increasingly dissapointing over the years, but the parade still draws a crowd. We should make up a couple of flags and get the name out to everyone.
Right now we've had the tactic of giving out information to other scooterists directly. No doubt there will be some there to see the parade, but it also presents a great chance that people who know scooterists (friends, family) will see it and say, "Hey, them scootery guys what with all the scootin' were neat. I should tell Scooty Rob about this."

Troy -- I like the idea. I'm willing to participate. Hopefully we can encourage a large group from the DCSC to participate. Are we going to try and throw candy to the kids too? What kinda candy best represents the DCSC?

It looks like people are interested! I'll give the parade folks a call tomorrow to check a few things (like, do we fit under their motorcycle club category) and give you an update.
Candy seems a must to me. Last year the politician I walked with gave out candy attached to business cards. Maybe we can give out both candy and cards with DCSC info.

The paperwork arrived today and the Duke City Scooter Club is officially accepted into the state fair parade.
The parade in held on Saturday, September 12th. Its starts at the fairgrounds and runs east on Central to about Eubank. Riders have to be at the staging area in the fairgrounds by 8:30 AM. The parade should be over by lunch time.
We've been provided with 10 free admission tickets that can be used any day for the fair, not just that Saturday. So we need at least 10 confirmed riders! We can certainly have more if more are interested.
So people need to contact me to confirm if you are coming. Plus, we need banners and such to show everyone who we are and do some other planning such as candy to hand out.
Contact me here to confirm or email me at lovata@unm.edu I'll post specific directions to the staging area and keep a running head count. I will be out of town this weekend, so don't fret if I don't get back to you until Monday night.
