Hi, everyone!
I am starting this thread to address charity events that are upcoming and which I am calling for member support. I want to stress that attendance for these is events is never mandatory but should be something that you choose to do because you have the time and the desire to help. I will be choosing events that are suggested to me by other members or that I hear about on my own. Some of these events will be discussed before hand at meetings; but, some events will undoubtedly come up that we might not have time to discuss and I will post them as needed.
I welcome all suggestions and I think that ALL charities and the work that we can do for them are valuable but we will not be able to do all of them so please be understanding. I am hoping that we will be able to participate in an event once a month or so. If there are smaller events that require only a few people, I might try to do them a little more often. I am sort of playing this by ear at this point, but I suspect that there will be more events than we can ever hope to participate in; and how much we do in the future will depend on the amount of time everyone is willing to put in. Speaking for myself, I have a great desire to help but not a whole lot of time and so I am going to try to dedicate myself to as much good as I can in the time that I can scrape up.
Also, we will not join events where we are expected to come up with large, set amounts of money (for example, I have decided not to do the Making Strides event because I don't think we have time to come up with the pledges and amounts of money involved.) This is because the point of club charity events is that we have a fair number of people who are willing to help and I don't want to milk them for funds constantly.
What I do want is a spirit of volunteerism, and I will especially be looking for opportunities for us to work as a group doing things like city clean-up or preparing and serving meals.
I will also be contacting the Ronald McDonald House, Casa Esperanza, and Peanut Butter & Jelly to let them know about our group and that we would be willing to help with any clean-up projects they might have going. For example, I know that the RMH occasionally has groups in to do playground & house clean-up, and I would imagine that the other places need help from time to time as well. If anyone has any suggestions for other organizations like these that might need our help, please let me know.
Thanks and have a fantastic day! Rayna
